Landscape Forest Photography
Limited Edition Fine Art Prints of Forests and Trees
Trees have been a sanctuary for people since the dawn of time. Let me elaborate.
I was out on an autumn fall foliage photography trip in the eastern Sierra Mountains of California. The afternoon was getting on and it was time to find a place to camp for the night. On the lower slopes of these mountains rough dirt roads can take you pretty far up the mountain sides and I spotted a thick stand of Aspen trees on level ground about a half mile further on. I got into my truck and slowly drove the rough 2-track that passed for a road and eventually pulled into that little copse of bright orange and yellow trees. After setting up my tent and getting camp ready I made a little fire in an old fire ring and kicked back in a camp chair. I was looking around the beautiful little stand of closely-spaced trees that surrounded me. The encirclement gave me a sense of peace and security. It was a little bit of protection against the elements and whatever other dangers might be out there. With this sense of happiness and satisfaction I slowly observed all the aspects of my surroundings and, on the ground at my feet, saw hundreds and hundreds of obsidian flakes. Centuries ago a man from the Paiute tribe had sat in this exact same spot, chipping arrowheads and spear points from obsidian. Did he experience the same feelings of peace, security, and happiness that this encircling quiet stand of Aspens had given me?
