Climbing Expedition to Gasherbrum 1 (26,510 ft.) in Pakistan in 1988

In 1988 I tried to climb Gasherbrum I in the Karakoram mountains of Pakistan. I have very few pictures left of that trip. The slides are so old that they’ve disintegrated and only a few were good enough to scan.

G-I is the very beautiful peak on the right. We only got to 23,000 feet before a savage storm moved in. We abandoned our summit ambitions to try and rescue two climbers trapped high on Gasherbrum II which is the pyramidal summit seen in the left of the photo.

On the way to Gasherbrum we passed the giant Broad Peak, which at 26,401 ft. is the world’s 12th highest mountain.

The indomitable K2 seen from near Gasherbrum basecamp. Sorry for the weird color. Like I said, the slides are in bad shape.
