Deserts are hot, bleak, relentless, and hostile. They are insatiable in their desire to suck the life out of you. Oh, have I mentioned how they coat you in icky, clinging dust? I prefer shade and a green forest floor.

So why bother even taking a camera into a desert? Because there is so much beauty. Deserts are like animals stripped of their skins revealing the amazing complexity that lies beneath. Just as we can never know ourselves if we don’t know what is underneath, we can’t know the earth unless it is stripped bare.
